What MarkSpace does MarkSpace replaces your New Tab with a visual bookmark workspace. It reads and edits Chrome bookmarks, stores appearance and preferences locally, and offers optional Google Drive backup, Pexels backgrounds and prayer reminders. Chrome's own bookmark synchronization is separate. MarkSpace currently provides backup and reviewed restoration, not automatic two-way merging.
Data on your device Chrome bookmarks include titles, URLs, folder structure and ordering. Local extension storage holds workspace and folder appearance, chosen images, quick access, language, display preferences, optional prayer coordinates/time zone and settings, optional custom audio, your Pexels API key if supplied, and Google connection/backup metadata (account identifier, email, generated device ID, user-chosen device name and backup timestamps). Google authorization is managed through Chrome Identity; MarkSpace does not persist OAuth tokens in its application storage. Local storage and exported files are not an encrypted vault.
Optional external services - **Google:** after you sign in, MarkSpace requests your Google account identifier/email and permission for its own Drive app-data folder. Signing in alone does not upload the workspace. After explicit approval, manual or enabled automatic backup sends bookmarks, images, settings, prayer location, custom audio and the saved Pexels key to that account's app-data folder. Backups are not uploaded to a MarkSpace-operated server. Other Drive documents are outside this permission. The stored backup is not end-to-end encrypted by MarkSpace. - **Pexels:** when you browse backgrounds, your search query and supplied API key are sent to the Pexels API; image requests go to Pexels image servers. Those services receive normal connection information, such as your IP address. Selected images are stored locally and included in backups. Their own privacy policies also apply. - **Web search and links:** searching with Google, Bing or DuckDuckGo opens the chosen provider with your query. Opening a bookmark contacts that website. Locally searched bookmarks are not sent to a search engine. - **Location:** coordinates are requested when you choose “Use my location.” Prayer times are calculated locally. Stored coordinates are included only when you authorize a full cloud backup or export them yourself. Browser/OS location services are governed by their own policies. - Custom or imported background styles can reference external images. Displaying such an image contacts its host. Chrome may also retrieve website favicons through its favicon service.
Use, sharing and retention MarkSpace has no analytics or advertising SDK in this release and does not sell user data. Google user data is used only to provide the user-facing account and backup functions; it is not used for advertising, profiling, credit decisions or unrelated purposes. MarkSpace's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including Limited Use requirements. Information voluntarily included in a support email is received by the publisher and the email provider to respond to that request; do not send passwords, API keys or private backup files.
Local settings remain until removed by you or by removing the extension/browser profile. Signing out stops future automatic backups but does not delete existing local data or Drive copies. Cloud revisions and reusable parts remain in your Drive and consume storage; MarkSpace does not automatically prune them. You can revoke the application's Google access in your Google Account and remove its hidden application data through Google Drive's app management. Revocation alone is not deletion. Copies you export remain wherever you save/share them. On a shared browser profile, other people with access to that profile may access its local data.
Your controls Use local mode without Google, decline optional host access, pause automatic backup, sign out, remove your Pexels key, or remove exported files. Full exports and backups include the Pexels key and potentially private bookmark URLs, coordinates and audio; keep them private. Contact the publisher above for privacy questions. Policy changes will update this date and be reflected in the extension's release notes when behavior changes.
